Last week we sat down with Steve Rozenberg of Empire Industries, a property management and real estate company based in Texas, to dive into how they grew their business to over 1,000 doors across three markets.

Like many in the industry, Steve began his venture in property management out of necessity. Before building Empire, he was a full time airline pilot for a major airline. After the events of 9/11, he was put on furlough at the age of 29 and realized he needed to start pulling income from other sources. Cue real estate investing.

He and his now business partner, Pete Neubig, both had properties they needed managed. It was during the height of the recession, they were low income properties, and nobody wanted them. So, they began managing them together and slowly taking on other properties.

Fast forward to today, Steve still works as an airline pilot part time while also running Empire Industries. He runs the podcast The Landlord Survival Show and recently published his book Building an Empire: Failing Our Way to Millions.
